Perfection in the End of Orwell’s Animal Farm

One of my sons recently finished reading Orwell’s 1984. I asked him what he thought about it. He said it was good, he liked it, but the ending was disappointing because the pigs just sat around smoking cigars and writing bad laws.

And thus we live out 1984 in modern america. The great pigs of state have grown unimaginably wealthy and powerful. They have destroyed america and her people so that they might acquire power…and now, having acquired it, of what benefit is it to them? So they can sit around, smoke cigars and write bad laws. They destroyed america for a life of ease…for their own selfish benefit. Not to help their brothers and sisters in Christ.

  1. “…the pigs just sat around smoking cigars and writing bad laws.”
    That’s “Animal Farm,” not “1984!”
